Making your way in Gotham today takes everything you’ve got. Taking a break from all your worries, like a Batman, sure would help a lot. Wouldn’t it be nice to get away? Even villains want to go where everybody knows your name: Noonan’s. After turning Kite Man into an A-list comic book henchman with an impractical suit and a heart of gold, the team behind Max’s animated Harley Quinn series cordially invites viewers to the bar. Kite Man: Hell Yeah is finally heading to Max on July 18, and it even has a trailer.
The series revolves around Kite Man (again voiced by Matt Oberg) funding his purchase of longtime Gotham low-life hangout Noonan’s by contributing to Gotham’s rising crime numbers. But the good news about Kite Man: Hell Yeah! is that, yes, James Adomian is returning to voice Bane. Building upon Tom Hardy and Doug Benson’s groundbreaking work in the field of Bane Voice Studies, Adomian has turned Bane into an icon, a sex symbol, and a villain with very low self-esteem. But, hey, at least he gets some fancy new duds in the trailer. Also returning is Oberg’s infectiously dopey turn as Kite Man, one of Gotham’s great himbos, Rory Scovel’s Gus the Goon, and J.B. Smoove’s Frank the Plant. Okay, maybe there’s a lot of good news with Kite Man.
However, while some characters are returning, their voice actors may not be. The mantel of Golden Glider has passed from Cathy Ang to Stephanie Hsu, who will continue the Kite Man’s new girlfriend story arc from Harley Quinn’s season three finale. Janelle James is our new Queen of Fables, initially voiced by Wanda Sykes; Keith David takes the Darkseid helmet from fellow ’80s luminary Michael Ironside; and finally, the late Lance Reddick, in one of his final roles, plays Lex Luthor, stepping in for Giancarlo Esposito. Some new voices are also expected at Noonan’s, including Michael Imperioli as Joe and Moe Dubelz, Natasia Demetriou as Malice, Judith Light as Helen Villigan, and Jonathan Banks as Noonan. But let’s be real here: We’re all just waiting for Jacob Tremblay’s whiny Robin to return to Gotham.
Kite Man: Hell Yeah! will land with two episodes on July 18 on Max, with new episodes running Thursdays through September 12.
