If there’s a silver lining to Warner Bros. Discovery’s horrible, inexplicable decision to permanently(?) shelve Coyote Vs. Acme, it’s that the movie was probably a big stinker that lacked the “spectacle” people have come to expect from animated/live-action hybrid movies about Wile E. Coyote taking Acme to court after decades of selling him faulty rockets and dynamite and wingsuits and that realistic paint that can make a cliff face look like a tunnel but then the Road Runner can just meep straight through it anyway. Ha ha, no, just kidding: It sounds like the movie was phenomenally great and all of our lives will be worse now for never getting a chance to experience it.
That’s basically what (human) star Will Forte said about Coyote Vs. Acme recently on Instagram (via Deadline), explaining that he assumed it was a “hunk of junk” when heard about the plan to scrap the movie, but now he’s seen it and he says it’s “incredible.” Forte says the movie was “super funny throughout, visually stunning, sweet, sincere, and emotionally resonant in a very earned way.” He also added that, during the credits, “I just sat there thinking how lucky I was to be a part of something so special.”
He says his appreciation for the film “quickly turned to confusion and frustration” when I started to wonder why the studio is refusing to release it. Even worse, he says it’s “looking like” the cast and crew who have yet to see Coyote Vs. Acme (let alone the general public) probably never will. For what it’s worth, though, he says that the people who worked on the movie “would be so proud of it” and that “every frame” showed the “years and years of hard work, dedication, and love” that they put into it.
There have been some attempts to save the movie from Warner’s villainous clutches, but none of them were good enough to dissuade the studio—and CEO David Zaslav, watching all of this go down from his Emperor Palpatine-esque throne room—from its stupid plan to write the movie off on its taxes. It’s all just such a bummer! We want to see the movie so bad!
